Update

Dear Friends:

By now, many of you have likely heard the sad news of our friend Suzanne Lydon's passing. A vibrant, big-hearted lady who loved mystery novels, sledding and embarrassing her husband by singing show tunes loudly (and off-key!), Suzanne's life was cut short recently in a car accident exacerbated by a winter storm near Detroit. She is survived by her loving husband, Charlie, and their two sons, Jason and Jack. It is the purpose of this Web Site and the "Charlie's Angels" support team to help the family adjust to a new life without Suzanne.

Since the accident, four year old Jason has found spending time with Grammy Mabel and Grandpa Jack. He is particularly fond of hearing stories about his mother. Whether it's the one about Suzanne's first day at ballet school or her first high school dance, Jason never tires of the tales, often struggling to stay awake just to hear one more. He doesn't really understand where she is and why she hasn't come home yet. Each night, Grammy Mabel tucks Jason and Jack into bed with their favorite stuffed animals.

Little Jack, who just turned two, has been the light of the household since Suzanne's passing. While he's always been mischievous, he seems to know just when Daddy or Jason need a smile, and is quick to make them laugh. He is currently making progress on a new set of Lincoln Logs, and is endlessly fascinated by his own ability to build. Jack likes to have a photograph of his mommy with him at all times, and Charlie makes sure to put one in his pants pocket every morning before preschool.

While the loss of Suzanne has been devastating to Charlie, he takes great solace and comfort in the community of family and friends who have offered their prayers and support in recent weeks. He is a wonderful father—Suzanne loved to call him "Daddy"—and has been spending lots of time with Jason and Jack. Charlie is glad to keep busy at the automobile factory, the same place where he and Suzanne met. It was the Human Resources department at Charlie's work that offered to help us put together this network of volunteers to help him through this difficult time.

The purpose of this Web site is to coordinate the many volunteers who have recently asked, "How can I help?" Being on the outside looking in, we often feel uncomfortable intruding on the family during this delicate time, and this Web site will tell you exactly which contributions are needed and when—with minimal involvement from the Lydons.

A tragedy such as this leaves many of us feeling helpless, when in fact, there are a myriad ways we can pitch in and make a difference in the lives of Charlie, Jason and Jack. Whether it's babysitting the kids so Charlie can make his weekly bowling night, delivering a hot meal for the family, or simply sharing a story about Suzanne, your small contributions can make a significant difference.

If you would like to join the "Charlie's Angels" support team, please add your name and email address on this page. Next, review the "How You Can Help" and "Calendar" sections for specific ways that the Lydons could use your assistance in the days ahead. As Jason said the other day, "Mommy's in heaven, but the angels will take care of us." With your help, we can make it happen.

With love and appreciation, The CareCircle Team
